Why Red for Pentecost Sunday?

AOA NEWS
Are you wearing red tomorrow for Pentecost Sunday? If so, you will be liturgically correct, and especially if you are Roman Catholic because "red" is the official color for Pentecost. Pentecost Sunday, which is also considered by Roman Catholics as the birthday of the Church is the day when Christians recall the showering down of the Holy Spirit onto the Apostles following Easter, "...there appeared to them tonques as of fire,...and began to speak in different tongues..." (Acts 2:2-4). Red is the color of fire and as such symbolizes the presence of God. For more on liturgical colors and symbols visit the website for the Christian Resource Institute.
