VOICE OF RUSSIA
By Tatyana Zavyalove
VATICAN CITY - On June 29-July 1, the Vatican marks the 60th anniversary of the ordination of Pope Benedict XVI as a priest. On this occasion, 60 distinguished figures of the artistic world - composers, writers, artists, photographers, filmmakers, sculptors and even jewelers – came to the Vatican on the invitation of the Pontif. All the guests prepared gifts to the Pope and each of these gifts meets the motto: Blaze of the Truth, the Beauty of Mercy. “The dialogue of religion and art is possible because it has a long tradition. In previous centuries masterpieces were created thanks to this dialogue” Gianfranco Ravasi, the head of the Pontific Council for Culture says. The Russian artist Natalya Tsarkova is one of the 60 guests at the current celebration in Vatican. She is the first female painter, who became the official portrait painter of the Pope. Tsarkova will exhibit paintings at the exhibition of the modern art, which opens here on July 5. [link]
