THE NEW YORKER
NEW YORK - The Hindu pantheon is the focus of two exhibitions this month. At the Brooklyn Museum, “Vishnu: Hinduism’s Blue-Skinned Savior” explores the religious tradition’s protector of the universe through more than a hundred and seventy paintings, sculptures, and ritual objects. Opens June 24. Devi, the female manifestation of power and wisdom, gets the spotlight in “Mother India: The Goddess in Indian Painting,” at the Met. Portraits of the goddess—in aspects from loving to frightening—are complemented by sculptures, including rare Bengali works in molded clay from the first century B.C. Opens June 29. [link]
